WFP: A picture of nutmeg, because it’s cool.
Okay… it’s just not happening. Long day, Jeff’s out tonight, and kids just got to sleep. I had a whole post in my head, but honestly I’m ready to hunker down with a decadent snack of leftover ginger spice cake and a movie (which I will likely fall asleep in front of). BUT, I have an idea. I’ve been doing these Wednesday food posts for a while now. Why don’t you share something with me? Share anything, but speak up! Give me a memory, a recipe, a food philosophy, a food question, a goal or desire… anything. What are you thinking, foodies? What have you thought of these posts? Any suggestions? Anything you’d like to see more of or you’d like me to talk about?

Off to have my cake and eat it, too. I’ve never understood that saying. Who has the cake and doesn’t eat it? I mean, really. For such a well used saying, I’m surprised so many of us use it and don’t think it bizarre. Am I missing something? Maybe it’s like the saying "sweating like a pig", which is weird because pigs don’t sweat… but there the irony is so obvious. With this cake saying, it’s as if some mean authority is making some arbitrary rule just to teach you that life isn’t fair… See? Too tired to do a food post. My apologies.

Oh, I LOVE your WFPs. They help me a lot. I’m sorry you aren’t getting enough feedback on them. I especially like the ones that focus on milk/dairy. I am trying really hard to get a cow share up here, but it’s seriously HARD and very frustrating. The closest farm that’s offering shares is about a 175 mile round trip, and nobody from my area is committing to share the travel (or enough folks could get together and the farmer would set up a drop). Marquette County is a weird vacuum…no homebirth midwives and no real milk (unless you know someone who knows someone who has extra milk from their family cow-which I don’t).
I always thought the ‘having cake and eating it too’ statement was somehow related to Marie Antoinette and her ill-timed comments when the peasants of France were starving: ‘if they don’t have bread, let them eat cake!’ Maybe I’m just putting two unrelated phrases together. 🙂
I love the look of whole nutmeg. I wonder when we’ll ever use up the entire jar we have though… we’re still on our first nut!
I love the WFPs! I have been inspired to try some things because of them. The most memorable one for me was when you were making your water kefir and I think you may have mentioned kombucha too.
What I look forward to most is knowing there is a post scheduled to show up that day from you.I find I’m coming to check my friend page on that day to find it.
I love food pics of all kinds. (Foodie!) WFPs could simply be a picture of your dinner plate every Wednesday night and it would suit me fine! haha
Ideas hm… did we ever get to see the eggs your chickens produce? How did they hold up for you over the winter? (I might have missed posts regarding the chickens while I was gone) Did the canning you did in the fall hold up for you over the months?
I have never seen nutmeg like that. I thought it was a very aged potato of some sort!
