September 15th- Just doing…

I start my day with old faithful, and enjoy it even more than usual because it's a chilly morning. Nothing beats a warm mug on cold hands.

Baby is all about mama. He and I snuggle for a bit while I play around on the computer for a while.

I start straining freshly made yogurt.

We all eat scrambled eggs.

It's Jeff's day off, so we are down to business today. He and Vera run an errand, and the boy and I start working outside. He mostly just works at turning from baby into little boy right before my eyes…

My friend B shows up with five bales of straw that I left at her house yesterday (we ordered 10, but I could only fit 5 in/on my car).

She fit them all, and Lilly is smiles at me from her little nest in the back seat.

Straw for garden and chickens through the winter.

We got 4 new chickens! They are young, just about to start laying. We got 2 silkies and 2 cochins. But, our friends who brought us the straw lost one of their new ones yesterday, and so we donated one of our to them. So now we have 3- 2 cochins and 1 silkie to add to the mix. I think we're going to make soup out of a couple of our older ones, they aren't all laying anymore.

The girls play.

My friend and I harvest and clean up some of the beds and trellises.

Baby is funny.

Onions!

It was the most perfect day- my favorite kind of weather. Sunny and in the 60s. Green everywhere…

I spot a quince on our transplanted quince bush! I didn't know if it would bear fruit this year, but here it is!

Delicata!

I heave a satisfied sigh. The garden has been good to us despite a fair amount of neglect due to how busy and distracted we've been.

We break.

Asa goes down for a nap. B's husband shows up and they start to make everyone a late lunch.

I go to work for a couple of hours. I was hungry, so it was perfect that there was homemade strawberry cake with cream cheese frosting in the office. Mmmm.

I get home and friends have left. Baby is up and in new clothes, ready for the second round of dirt.

Harvest. Beets, carrots, onions.

Zucchini, yellow squash, eggplant, tomatoes, broccoli, cucumbers.

Peeps! They are so cute! From top to bottom, we've got Olive, Jala, and Pippin.

I take a break to love on my new little chicky.

Coffee, round 2.

Baby is clingy and won't let me do much, so I take him inside and I clean up a little.

I refill some jars.

Back outside, Jeff takes a picture that looks very familiar

I get this far with the new herb bed before I realize that Asa just won't have anymore of it. We decide that's enough work on the yard for the day.

I decided that this corner was just too crowded and disorganized, so I swap the small bookshelf for a big one that I found on the side of the road.

Much better! More kid-proof and will be better used. I'm always using this corner for brewing kombucha and sprouting, and so this will be good.

We decide to use some extra money to buy food tonight. We load the kids up and head down the street to the brewery. Their food is quality and we trust their sourcing. So nice to have a few options like that around.

Jeff runs in to get food. Asa falls asleep on my back. Vera and I enjoy the sunset.

Back home Jeff puts Vera to bed and I head downstairs with food for some relaxing. Good day.

What did you do today?
