Enjoying the storm.

My birthday was great. It’s official… 26. A good way to be, I think. Tonight we’re going to have a family dinner at my folk’s place. I’ve requested homemade Reuben sandwiches (with my sauerkraut!) and Georgia Peach cake with our raw ice cream. It’s gonna be good. Vera sweetly asked me just before I put her down for her nap if she could "share" my birthday treats. Of course, sweet child, I’ll share with you.

Yesterday we went walking to farmer’s market, then to a late breakfast at a little nearby cafe, then dropped V off with her Grandma so that we could get a couple of books and have a nice dinner together (we had gift certificates to use… it felt decadent! Crab cakes and chocolate mousse were involved, I was very happy.) Anyway, I didn’t get many pictures, but I got some.

My girl, loving the windows being down. We had a little extra left on our card at the end of our book adventure, so we picked out "The Adventures of Frog and Toad" (a classic) for Vera, totaling 32 cents for us. Not bad! She loves it, too. I think one of these years I’ll have to get other people presents for my birthday. That’d be fun.

Jeff and Vera thought it would be a good idea to put poor little Asa in the doll stroller. Well, you can see just what he thought of that idea.

In addition to the KitchenAid, Jeff gave me a coffee table! Oh, the coffee tables in my life… This one is particularly nice, though, because he put it together from found materials. The top he found and refinished with natural oils, and the legs came off of an old table off the side of the road. I love it.

Vera seems to like it.

People who know me well know that I like to rearrange things. I like to mix it up, kick up the dust and start fresh from time to time. I looked at my living room on Friday and knew just what to do. From this…

To this. Much better.

I love doing that. It took like 30 minutes, and was so so refreshing.

Harvests are going well- big and busy. I am definitely slowed down a little by the way life is these days. Two hands can only do so much. So I’m just doing what I can, when I can, and not worrying too much about it. BUT, there’s this little patch of land (less than an acre, although not by too much) almost directly across the street from us. It’s great, and it’s just sitting there for sale. We called and left a message with the owner to see how much they are asking for it… if it’s cheap enough we may just try to go for it. I have visions of a community garden/neighborhood CSA… chickens and goats, a little cob community house with an outdoor kitchen (and a nice room for my massage therapy), a big greenhouse… day dreaming like crazy over here. Oh what I would love to wake up and go to work right in my own yard. There are lots of local businesses who would be interested in buying greens and stuff, too. It could be so great.

Anyway, I am happy to be here. I’m glad I was born.

Quote of the day:
"Like all of us in this storm between birth and death, I can wreak no great changes on the world, only small changes for the better, I hope, in the lives of those I love." (Dean Koontz)
